Spring work has started on the islands getting ready for the 2017 season. .
Spring has arrived! The docks by the cottages are going to get a major facelift this weekend. Sean and Larry are busy picking up the winter dead fall. The Canadian geese arrived last week and are enjoying the small open sections of water around the islands. The opening of the cottages for the 2017 season has started.
The ice bridge was taken down yesterday so that is a sure sign spring is on the way. The ice bridge had a short season this year and did not go up until mid February. The birds are starting to arrive so that must mean an early spring.The Bruce Mines Chamber of Commerce & Algoma Kinniwabi are hosting a Tom Thomson event on Sunday March 30 as he painted the town of Bruce Mines in 1912. Michael Burtch Art Historian will be presenting the life of Tom Thomson and validating that indeed it is a painting of Bruce Mines. The McKay Island Lighthouse has availability in April so plan a spring getaway to watch the birds migrating back to our area.

Winter has arrived and the islands are a winter wonderland. The McKay Island Lighthouse will be open throughout the winter season. Come to the islands and enjoy the winter fun. Tobogganing, stargazing and winter bonfires are great winter experiences. Bring your snow shoes or cross country skis to follow the wildlife tracks around the islands.

The islands have been dusted with the first snow fall of the season! Larry & Sean have been busy filling the wood sheds for next summer. This winter the lighthouse will be open for the winter season and the plan is to turn our trails into snow show trails or rugged cross country ski trails. We are participating in Tourism Northern Ontario's Tourism Excellence North program and what a great experience it has been. The winter chores are all underway now.
The cottages are closed for the season and waiting for winter to arrive. The November Gales are coming book the McKay Island Lighthouse and listen to the waves while watching the freighters. Cottage 5 is now under construction and will be the first cottage to be upgraded. Plan a winter getaway at the McKay Island Lighthouse as it will be open for the winter season. Enjoy the winter activities on the islands!
The cottages are getting ready for the last weekend of the 2016 season. Guests this weekend will be dipping paddles into Lake Huron, hiking the trails to enjoy the coloured leaves, and maybe even get wet. The wildlife are busy getting ready for winter. Wishing you all a Happy Thanksgiving.
The last hoorah of summer! All guests will enjoy the summer like weather this Labour Day Weekend;-) Where has the summer gone but now fall is here so think of fall adventures down the line. Next weekend it is the Fall Fair at the arena and the Demolition Derby is Friday night. September 17th is the Sylvan Circle escape to nature in a cottage and enjoy the fall country road tour and stop to see all the Artisans and their creations.
The summer season is off to a hot start, guests are swimming, kayaking and enjoying the great weather. Cottage 7 has just had a cancellation for Friday July 22 for a week so plan a getaway and book today.
The otter and mink are entertaining the guests as well the foxes.

The time has flown by where has the last 2 months gone? The resort is now open and guests are enjoying the warm weather and some have even ventured into Lake Huron for a swim. The islands survived the winter but the water levels are way up this year. Think you will be able to fish from the deck at Cottage 8
Holly and Sean Woodstra have made the move from Burlington, Ontario to Bruce Mines to manage the resort. They are an excellent addition to the staff. They have a passion for the islands and for fishing.

Spring is in the air. Lake Huron waves can be seen lapping under the bridge and the point of McKay Island. The squirrels and chipmunks are out and about. The Canadian Geese can be seen standing on the ice checking out their territory. Before long we will being to open up the cottages for the 2016 season. The maple syrup is running so come on down the line to St Joseph Island for pancakes and syrup and stop in Bruce Mines and check out the Antique Store.
Stay in the McKay Island Lighthouse for the March Break. The snowmobile trails in District 13 are now all green and ready for some great sledding. Craig Nicholson the Inrepid Snowmobilier and his crew will be arriving in our area tomorrw to enjoy our fine trails.
The ice bridge may not be ready but the trails in Bruce Mines are ready! Come to Bruce Mines and enjoy the scenery and the trails. Winter has finally arrived.
Winter has at last arrived and the islands are a winter wonderland. The lake now has a thin layer of ice which is lightly covered with snow. It is great fun to observe the animal tracks in the snow. The McKay Island lighthouse is going to be open for weekends this winter. Consider a winter getaway.
The warm weather this Labour Day weekend was enjoyed by the guests as they went for a swim or kayaking. The days are getting shorter and the smell of autumn is in the air. Think fall and plan a getaway weekend for the fall colours. and perhaps a road truip down Highway 129 to Aubrey Falls or up Highway 17 to Lake Superior

Installed the Migratory Bird Song Meter last night so for sure that is a sign that fall coming soon. It has been a great summer but we have had a lack of rain so we are under a no fire ban presently.
